On the morning of September 11, 2001, I sat on my bed and went about folding laundry just as I did in my everyday routine. I was carrying our first child and was excited about the approaching birth in November. Nothing could have prepared me for the horror when I turned on the television at 9:00 a.m. My husband was at work and I felt so alone. I felt an overwhelming sadness and concern for my unborn child. What was becoming of this world he was being born into? After confirming that travelling family members were safe, I longed to be with my family.
