911DA Story: Story

That fatetful Tuesday morning I was home. You see I watch our beautiful granddaughter, Aleah, who then was only 8 months old. She and I were laying on the floor playing with her toys and watching television. The first news we heard was that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center in NYC. Her Pappy works the night shift and had just gone into bed when I told him what was going on he got up, and from then on we watched in horror. It just seemed like a scene from a movie. Then we heard about the Pentagon being attacked with a plane, and then of course the plane that went down in Shanksville, PA, which is about 100 miles south/east of Butler. That whole day was one of shock, horror, and disbelief. As I watched my granddaughter I was just petrified to think that maybe she wouldn't grow up. We were glued to the television, then the phone started to ring, first our younger son calling from Michigan, and then Aleah's Mommy and Daddy calling. We cried a thousand tears. Today on the awful anniversary we again watched television. We saw our President and First Lady come to the tiny town of Shanksville, and talk personally to each family member of those fallen heroes. What will our future be, right now I don't know. I am keeping a journal for our granddaughter, and any future grandchildren. We have done a scrapbook of all the events surrounding 9/11/01. It is still very hard to believe that some horrible evil monster would do such a thing to us. I don't know what drove him or his evil doers to destroy all these beautiful lives. I donot call these evildoers suicide bombers, they are murderers, and what they did can never be undone. I pray for the families of the fallen heroes, to the firemen who ran into those buildings and didn't come out. To the police officers who also ran in and tried to direct people out, and they too didn't come out. To all of the office workers, the restaurant help, the janitors, the elevator and door people. To the brave people who knew the plane was slamming into the Pentagon. To the heroes of Flight 93 in Shanksville, who rose to the occasion when Todd Beamer said Let's Roll. These our all heroes, they saved us from evildoers. To our military who now are serving in foreign lands, on the sea, and in the air. I thank all of you, you are heroes. It is not the politician, the sports figure, the singer, the musician, but everyday people who are the heroes. I thank God every day that I live in a country where we are free to travel, to speak, to practice our religion, and that as a wife, mother, grandmother do not have to bow down to my husband or sons. To whomever reads this I am a 51 year old, white, married woman. I have been married for 31 years, I have a loving husband, 2 of the best/ever sons, a beautiful daughter/in/law, and the an angel of a granddaughter. Our lives have been blessed and full. We live in Butler, PA, which is a small community, mostly farms in the outlying areas. I pray that our country can go forward, and pray that no more cowardly evil doers will cause us anymore pain.
