My former teaching partner Whitney came into my classroom to ask if I had seen or heard the news. I turned on the t.v. in my classroom and saw the results of the first tower crash of the WTC. I called my parents on my cell phone to tell them to turn on the news, and that's when the second plane crashed into the other tower. I couldn't believe it and didn't know if this was a war starting. We were told by administration to not tell the students about this and to not have the tv on in our classrooms, so I was worried the whole day. Later when I found that there were two more crashes I knew that this just wasn't some freak accident, but something VERY serious. I was scared for my family, my friends, and my students. I couldn't wait to get home that day because I didn't feel safe. I had just visited the WTC last July and while I was there on the Top of the World looking out at the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island & Atlantic Ocean, I got an eerie feeling that these structures were such a target if there ever was a war. I feel bad now that I ever even had that thought then because it was true.
