911DA Story: Story
I was in bed watching the remainder of Good Morning America trying to get a few more minutes of rest before starting my day, when I heard/saw the events of the day.
I spent the rest of the day in shock, in tears, and in mourning for people I did not know. My heart just broke for the two cities of which I had visited. NYC in June for vacation, no less.
It was my husband's birthday. Not exactly the time you feel like celebrating. So..we postponed it until the next day. As we will do this year, also. We will, instead, attend a memorial service this year as well. It is the least we can do.
We have flown our flag and had r/w/b lights or a lighted flag on ever since. We will not take them down until BinLaden is captured,or killed, and until our troops come home, ending this war.
We owe it to those lost on that day to never forget what happened. We owe them honor in this small way. We need to remember so that we will always remember that we are not in control of our destinies. We need to remember that we are not an invincible nation. It is our duty.
This year will be marked by watching the news, attending a service, and taking a few moments out to pray for our nation and the families who lost their loved ones.
This was a day I will choose to always remember. I have to. I feel I have no choice but to remember.
