September 11, 2002 to July 6, 2003 over 1 million visitors saw the exhibition "September 11: Bearing Witness to History" at the Smithsonian's, National Museum of American History. As the Smithsonian Institution's designated repository for digital materials related to 9/11, the September 11 Digital Archive has permanently archived thousands of stories left by visitors the onsite exhibition on paper response cards, and through a form on the website.
The Museum continued to collect reflections through its own portal to the September 11 Digital Archive, as well as by collecting visitor comment cards during the 10th anniversary.
