911DA Story: Story
It was Primary Day in New York, I was home and getting myself and 3 year old son ready to go out. My sister called me from Brodheadsville, PA. and told me that a plane hit the Twin Towers. I put the news on. We assumed it was a horrible accident. While watching the fire, we saw the second plane come in and thought we were watching an instant replay, until the reporters started screaming. At that point we realized our country was under attack. I immediately hung up and tried to reach my husband who is a Police Officer with the Bridge and Tunnel Authority, and is assigned to the Triboro Bridge. It took hours for us to reach each other. When my husband did get home, he told me that they saw the Towers go down from the Triboro Bridge. I asked, if it was like a movie, unreal, and he said "no, it was worse, beacause it was". My husband knew some of the officers who were lost. It was very scary. My little boy saw my crying al the time. We did not go out for days. Four weeks earlier, I had left my job of 10 years in Midtown
Manhattan, and was very grateful not to have been there.
