How has your life changed because of what happened on September 11, 2001?
I'm much more aware about what's going on in the world. Prior to 9-11, I was thankful to live in this great country, but I took the privilege of living here for granted. I just assumed it would remain safe and immune to the horrific violence infecting the world. It was a rude awakening to realize the USA is just as vulnerable to being attacked as anywhere else. I live each day knowing that something awful could go down. I would not be quite as shocked as I was on 9-11. My Dad, who was 86 at the time of the attack, didn't seem as shocked as I was. He survived the jungles of New Guinea in WWII and saw a lot of terrible things. He was well aware of the potential for all kinds of war, but he did a wonderful job insulating us from the nightmare of it. My kids were in preschool and elementary school when the planes struck their targets. They didn't understand then, and honestly, I don't think they can fathom it now. It's just a whisper of a memory to them. I suppose I should be glad about that, because they are like I used to be before 9-11 -- unafraid of the possibility that terrorists could come calling to murder and destroy. I pray that their sense of security won't be shattered as mine and many others has been. But just like my dearly departed Dad, I know the odds are in favor that it could. Lord Jesus, please protect them if the wicked come calling once again. Amen.
How will you remember the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks?
Praying for the families of all the victims, for guidance for our leaders, and for love to overcome the wicked hatred in this world. Being thankful for what we have and praying that all who suffer from the terrible fall out of war will be helped. Asking God for grace in a world that seems hell bent on destroying itself. Praying that my children, their children, and future generations will get the opportunity to enjoy fulfilling, productive lives, and experience the beauty of this world. Thanking God for the United States of America and asking for His protection and help.
