I first learned what happened when my co-worker's husband, Danny, called his wife, and told us that a plane had hit the Trade Center. We couldn't believe what he was telling us, and hoped that it was just a tragic accident. When Danny called back a few minutes later and told us that a second plate had hit the other tower, we all knew that it was a terrorist atack. Everyone in our office started crying, and I was shaking. My sister called me, and we started crying together over the telephone. I called my son's school and told his guidance counselor that I was coming to pick up him and my niece. When I got to my son's school, I went right to the lunchroom and just gave him a big hug.

I took my son and my niece to my sister's house and we just huddled together on the couch, crying and hugging each other for the longest time.
