911DA Story: Story
The morning of September 11th felt like any other day. My husband rolled out of bed earlier than I. Being pregnant with our first child, I snuggled back under the blankets and asked my husband to wake me in an hour.
The next thing I knew my husband was yelling for me to come into the living room. And then I saw what so many others were seeing-the recorded image of the airplane hitting the first tower...and then the second plane. We finally saw the images of the Pentagon and the scenes from Pennslyvania. Our reactions were shock and immediate sadness.
At first it felt like a bad dream or a horrible accident. So many people...
We spent the day thanking God that our loved ones were okay and yet asking him how this could happen to so many innocent people. Later on in the day we decided that we needed a break from the news coverage and took a drive around town. We saw a man on the street corner waving a huge flag around the sky. That sight brought tears to our eyes and the picture is still imbeded in my mind. The stars and stripes have never looked so beautiful to me before.
That night my husband had to go to work on base, I was so afraid for him to to be there, but I knew he had to go.
I felt a glimmer of hope that night while trying to fall asleep, my son kicked me for the very first time. It was amazing and my first glimmer of hope that things would be alright.
I am not sure that we have completely healed and honestly don't know if we ever will. I want to thank everyone who has given their life for our freedoms. God bless America!!
