911DA Story: Story
I was at my desk working when I heard the first news report of a plane crash. About the time I heard it, my boss came down the hall and was asking what I had heard. As we were listening to the reports, the second plane hit the WTC. I went into our lounge area to see the television reports. In what is normally a very noisy and busy environment, you could hear a pin drop. Everyone was standing, staring at the tv in disbelief. No one said a word. Tears were in several eyes, including the men. We all watched in silence for what seemed like an eternity. As we had to go back to our areas and go through the motions of working, it was a day like no other. The phones were eerily silent. They rang maybe 3 times the whole day. There were tears and sadness, and confusion. Unanswered questions and prayers lifted to God for comfort to those in pain. I still cry when I think about the events of that day and probably always will. I found my buried patriotism which had been taken for granted for too long. I display the flag with pride at my home and wear a flag pin almost everyday to remember all those who died that day and to honor the servicemen and women who do what they do so that I may be free.
