911DA Story: Story

*How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience.

My parents called me from New York after the first plane hit. They told me to turn on the T.V. beacuse they could see it from their kitchen window. I turned it on in time to see the second plane hit. I was very worried about my family, many of whom live in New York. Especially my sister who lives only a mile away from the World Trade Center. I found out all my family was safe but I did know two women who were killed.

*Has your life changed because of September 11th, 2001? If so, tell us how.

I would say that I am more thankful to be an American and more appreciative of my family and friends. However, it has made me more anxious about the possibility of further terrorist attacks.

*What do you think should be remembered about September 11th?

I think we need to remember the innocent people who were killed, especially the brave firemen and police officers who walked intho the danger trying to help everyone get out. Their sacrifice has special meaning to me since my father is a retired FDNY Captain and knew guite a few of the men who were killed.

*Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feeling about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th?

Yes, I did and my feelings have changed somewhat. I never was the flag-waving type but after September 11th it made me realize how much being an American means to me.
