911DA Story: Story
It had started like any other day, I was getting my son and self ready to start our day. For some reason, I had awaken with a heavy heart and a strange feeling deep in my gut.
I dropped my son off at school and made my way to work at the Public Safety Building. When I arrived, the Chief of Police, Captains, officers as well as office personnel were gathered in the briefing room watching what appeared to me to be a horrible scene from a training video or even a horror movie. As I approached and asked what was going on, and the look on their faces told me that this was not what I thought that it was. The Chief looked at me and explained what had happened and that this was taking place as we watched. I stood there in shock as I watched the 2nd plane hit, and watched as the towers started to go down. I knew what I was watching was real but I could not find the rationalization as to "why"? I asked myself over and over again, how can America and Americans be hated so much.
Our agency was put on alert and all precautions were put into place. I know that we are far from New York and the Pentagon, but I have come to realize that we can never let our guard down as a Nation ever again. 9/11 should have been a wake up call for all Nations.
I mourn for those lost and their families, for those who are ill from inhaling the dust at ground zero, but above all I mourn for those lives that have been lost since this war on terrorism began.
I see everyday since that day as a day to live to live each day to the fullest. I will continue to pray for peace and for each and every Nation touched by this horrible word called "terrorism"
God Bless America!
