911DA Story: Story
I'd like to first say how proud I am of America. When I heard that it was a terrorist attack, I thought uh oh, whoever did this is in big trouble. They didn't demoralize us, they pulled this country together in a way that hasn't been felt since WWII. The resolve of the firefighters and police could be felt all the way to California.
There is one group that was not mentioned in the tributes, that played a huge part in the search and rescue. A group of tireless and relentless searchers. They never asked for anything except just to work. I am talking about the dogs that climbed mounds of debris to find victims. One courgeous canine lost his life doing what he loved to do. They never gave up and all they asked for was the love of their handlers.
I will never get over the sights and sounds of ground zero, the overturned and devastated fire trucks and police cars. The images of the planes hitting. The overall waste. The ordinary citizens of this great country that emerged that day as heroes.
I will never forget.
