911DA Story: Story

The morning of September 11,2001, I was in the bank depositing a check from a client of ours when suddenly one of the people working in the bank announced to the entire room that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center in NYC. I felt awful, it was not because I knew someone there because I didn't. I felt bad for what I thought was a tragic accident. I felt bad for the unknown number of people in the building and in the plane that had died. I left the bank and went back to my home office where my partner was not in the office but rather upstairs with her eyes glued to the tv. "They say it could be a terrorist attack" she said. I sat and watched as the commentators on tv talked about what had happened. Then as we watched another plane hit the other tower. "There is no way this is an accident now" we thought and heard the annoucers say. Then as we watched, the plane hit the pentagon and I was awstruck because my uncle is a high ranking officer and was in the pentagon, so I thought. I tried for the rest of the day to no avail to contact my family to find out if my uncle was in the rubble. I didn't find out until the next day that my uncle had recently been restationed to Alabama for education. A sigh of relief came upon me but I still was so disturbed and distraught because I came to find out that if he had been in the Pentagon that day, his office was in the direct area of the crash!
