Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was already at work that morning, sitting at my desk doing paperwork. My middle daughter called and said, "Mom, a plane just hit the World Trade Center." I remember thinking oh no, a plane has had engine trouble and gone out of control. Terrorism and being under attack never crossed my mind at that point. I shared the news with some other colleages and went to the small breakroom where we have a television. I couldn't get a picture on it, because it is used only for VHS viewing. I left the office and went a few blocks over to my Mother's house. I needed to see what was going on. I had just walked into her living room when the second plane hit the other tower. I said, "Was that a replay?" But we knew as we were standing there that it wasn't, there now two towers on fire. I began to pray in my heart, Oh God, please help these people to get out! All the time thinking, why is this happening? I returned to work, and tried to concentrate on the task at hand. We had managed to get a television set up to watch the day unfold. My heart was breaking for New York City. The people and the city didn't seem that far away anymore. I guess I felt like many Americans that day, I wanted to help, but there was nothing I could do except pray, and I did continously for the next several days. In the days that followed, I will never forget the bond that was felt throught-out our community and even the rest of the Country. Being from the South, it seems that were almost always arguing and debating one thing or another. But for the first time in my 41 years of life, all of that was laid aside, and we were truly "..one nation, under God." I have to say that it was the best, most peaceful feeling I have ever experienced and I remember praying, "Jesus ,please let this unity grow stronger and stronger." I think the events and tragedies of 9-11 have changed us all in one way or another. We are never going to agree on alot of things because we are such a diverse nation, (Thank God!). But we can all agree that we are proud to be called Americans, and we'll stick together to keep the freedom given to us by God and fought for by other great Americans!
