NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. When I witnessed The September 11th attacks at first I really didn't know what was going on. It was just another normal tuesday and I was at school in class and was just about to break for lunch. I remember the bell rang and the class began to leave the room and the teacher stopped all of us. He had been given a note by an administrator. I remember him deading it to us saying "a plane has crashed into the world trade center buildings in new york". I figured it was just an accident, a pilot had chrashed or something. And to tell you the truh, at the time I didn't even really know what the world trade center was, I had heard of the towers but I didn't know how big they were and how many people were inside them. So I just went on to lunch and really didn't think anything about it until I got home. I got relaxed, layed on the couch, and flipped on the tv... Then I immidiately shot back up from the couch, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. A plane crashing into this massive building that at the time was still standing. Then I began wondering how it happened. I also heard about the pentagon, so I knew it couldn't have been an accident then. When it turned out to be terrorists I had 2 feelings, great anger, and great confusion. The anger feeling is pretty obvious but i was confused because I just don't see how anyone could be so heartless to kill so many people. So that day will stick in my mind for the rest of my life, I remember every detail like it was yesterday. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed since the Septemeber 11th attacks. For one, I feel somewhat scared that this kind of thing could happen again. Another way my life has changed is security everywhere I go. My family and I went on a vacation and even I, a 14 year old kid, was patted down in the airport, but I guess at the same time I'm glad and once I got on that plane I thought to myself there is no way anybody was getting anything on that plane. Knowing all the metal detectors, x-ray machines and everything else I went through. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think what should be remembered about September 11th is that to those people on the planes, and in the building is it was just any other day to them going to work or going on vacation. To some families they never got to say goodbye to that person, so we should be appreciative of our family every day. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I flew the flag after September 11th, which I had one flying before that but I replaced it because it was dirty and faded. I wanted to see those colors bright and strong. My feelings about the flag after the attacks is more appreciation for my country, and my freedom.
