NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. Wow, it's hard to believe it has been a year since this horrible tragedy. I was at a local hospital waiting to go in to get a mammogram. I was watching the news in the breaking story in the waiting room. I saw the first plane hit and then I was called back. WHen I came back into the waiting area the second plane hit. I saw this as it happened. I couldn't believe it. I thought surely this must be a weird accident. I never dreamed that it was a terrorist attack. I thought of my husband who was away in Arkansas on an interview. I tried and tried to reach him. I knew he was safe but I wanted to speak personally with him and let him know what was going on. I thought of our children who were at school knowing they were safe. I left the hospital and went to the YMCA to workout. It was so strange . Every T. V. in there had the same thing on it. I remember exactly who was in there with me that day. We spoke and shared how hard it was to believe that this was happening in our country. I also thought of my best friend who lived in Va. close to D. C. Her husband works in Fairfax. I reached her by phone as she was sitting in the dentist's chair. They were okay.I wanted to be with the ones I loved. I heard of many people going to pick up their children. I did not do this. I felt that my kids were safe. THere were a lot of people in our area of W. V. worried because we have so many chemical plants around us. I really wasn't .Why would any terrorist want to come to little old W. V.? My husband had to drive 14 straight hours home due to the airports being closed. He arrived home around 4:30 in the morning. I was happy to see him. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has not really changed very much since September 11th. I do feel a need to tell those I love "I love YOu" more often and to try and settle misunderstandings. We do not have the promise of tomorrow. Lisa and Todd Beamers story has impacted me a lot. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? The never ending efforts of Americans trying to save other fellow Americans. God is still in control!!!! NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? WE do not have an official American flag but we had small ones we displayed. We were one of 100's who had them on our car and all around the house. We still have them up. They have never came down. We are priviledged American citizens every day of the year. My feelings haven't really changed. I love my country and I think we all take our freedom for granted at times.
