NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was in volleyball practice before school in seventh grade. I was hot, sweaty, and ready for it to be over when my coach finally blew the whistle. Instead of us just leaving to change and get ready for class she gathered us around and asked us to sit down. When she told up what happened, I didn't think of it as any big thing until I went to my next class and saw it on the news. We didn't do any work all day. We just sat and watched as they showed the planes crashing and the buildings collapsing over and over again. You could see things falling from the buildings and I thought it was wood or windows or support that had collapsed, but then I realized it was people jumping. They knew that that was there only hope. All day I wondered if I was safe. Would my town be the next to be attacked? NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. Yes. Before the September 11, I never worried when I saw people from foreign countries. I never thought twice about terrorists. Now everytime I see someone that looks different or has an accent from another place, I wonder if he/she might be a terrorist. I treat other people differently than I would before the attacks. I smile a lot and try to be friendly because September 11 made me realize what a wonderful country I live in because of the way that everyone has come together. We've been such a strong nation through it all. We've helped each other to over come all the hurt, anger, and fear that the attacks caused. Because of this I'm happy to be an American and to be who I am. Although I'm scared of all the things that could and might happen, I try to stay positive and lead others by my actions. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that we should all remember how scared and hurt everyone was and how we came together afterwards to help each other. I also think we should remember the people that were killed or injured in the attack and their families because their lives were changed without warning and everyday their families and friends have to work to go on with out them. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes. I had recently rearranged my room and ended up with a blank space on one of the walls and was trying to decide what I should put there. My dad suggested a flag and I agreed. When I'm just listening to music or lieing in bed I look at it and think of all the people that have fought for it, and for all that it stands for.
