NMAH Story: Story
I WAS HAVING MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE AND WATCHING THE TODAY SHOW IN THE KITCHEN, I LIVE IN WESTERLY RHODE ISLAND, JUST A SHORT TRIP INTO NYC. WHEN THE EVENTS UNFOLDED ON THE TV I DIDN'T WANT TO BE ALONE, SO I CALLED MY DEAREST FRIEND AND WE WATCHED TOGETHER HOLDING ONTO THE PHONE, HER HUSBAND SAID THE BUILDINGS WOULD NOT FALL, AND THAT MANY PEOPLE WOULD GET OUT, AND THEN THEY FELL, IT WAS ALMOST UNREAL & IN SLOW MOTION. AND THEN AS WE WERE TRYING TO COME TO GRIPS WITH WHAT WE WERE SEEING,THE PENTAGON & FLIGHT 93. I WAS SURE IT WOULD CONTINUE & THAT MANY MORE CITIES AND PEOPLE WOULD BE INVOLVED. I WORK IN A HOSPITAL & WENT IN LATER THAT AFTERNOON, EVERYONE WAS IN SHOCK & MECHANICALLY GOING ABOUT WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE FOR THE PATIENTS THAT WE HAD TO TAKE CARE OF. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO HELPLESS OR EXPOSED AS I DID THAT MORNING AT THE KITCHEN TABLE. NOW I TAKE COMFORT IN THE MILITARY PLANES THAT FLY PATROLS OVER MY HOUSE EVERY NIGHT, BUT I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HOW IT HAPPENED HERE IN THE USA. RESPECTFULLY LYNDA P. FLESIA
