NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I had gotten up very early that morning and a friend and I went to the beach at Fernandina Beach, Florida. We spent a couple hours there just walking the beach and relaxing. When we returned home, the atmosphere was strange and people seemed so stressed. I asked one of my neighbors what was wrong and all she could say was people were dying. I turned on the TV, just as the second plane hit the tower and then watched in shock for the remainder of the day. I thought, how could this be? We are America, but in just a few minutes I realized that our world had changed and that we were indeed under attack. My heart and soul were so deeply saddened, to this day I still feel that same saddness when I hear or see anything about 9-11. I called my daughter and Mother and told them I loved them. I cried while my husband held me. I still can hardly believe that anyone could have the copacity to murder innocent men, women and children. My heart goes out to all of the families that lost someone that horrific day. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. Yes, I have become more security concious and more aware of my surroundings. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think we should remember all who gave their lives to help, but also we need to let the terrorist know that we are still America, the land of the Free. We need to also remember the pain and trauma of that day and do all we can to try to prevent it from ever happening again. The children, our future who will never feel the warmth of the sun or the beauty of a sunset. They are the ones that I will mostly remember. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I am ex-military and have always flown our beautiful flag. If my feelings have changed it is only that I have a stronger faith and belief in our country.
