When I heard about the World Trade Center being struck by airplanes, I was sitting in my AP Calculus classroom. A general air of disbelief was around my whole class. The idea that people would hijack planes and crash them into buildings were foreign to the point where it did not seem possible. We immediately went to the computer to try and find out what we could but the internet access was restricted by the school's firewall. It was not until lunch that day that we were able to find out more about what was going on. Through the televisions set up in the cafeteria, we witnessed the horror of jets crashing into buildings. The whole day was a flurry of confusion and fear. The idea that America was under attack scared me beyond belief. I went to work but promptly left to go home and take in as much news as possible. I had a hard time sleeping that night and for months after the attack, I felt an emptiness within me. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. September 11, 2001 changed my life. I now realize that my own mortality is one terrorist attack away. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that the fact that terrorists attacked us should be remembered. These people are all over the world and they are just plain evil. No allowances should be made for such people. Remember, they were willing to sacrifice their lives to kill 3,000, what makes you think they wouldn't do it again? NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I have flown the American flag ever since September 11th. My feeling for the flag have changed. I feel that I have a deeper understanding of what the flag stands for, freedom.
