NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. My son David and his girlfriend Lizzie live in Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York State. Lizzie was doing a Masters Degree in Curatorial Studies at Bard Colege and David went with her. In the week that included September 11th. we knew that they were staying in a friends appartment in Manhatton and we knew that they were going to visit the World Trade Centre. On September 11th. I was teaching at school when an ex member of staff came to visit and said "Have you heard what's happened? A plane has flown into one of the Twin Towers!" I don't know how I stayed teaching that class! At hometime I rushed off thinking that David and Lizzie would have left a message on the answer phone to say that they were safe. No message. A little later my husband came home from work early. Neither of us knew if the other had heard of the plane crashes and the collapse. We kept trying to phone David and Lizzie but could not get through. I e mailed messages asking them to let us know if they were OK. Five hours later they were able to phone out to let us know that they were safe. It was the longest five hours of our lives but - they were safe!
