NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I live in Southern CA, and was asleep when I recieved a phone call from my Mom who lives in Southern Utah. She told me to go turn on the tv.... I did. Nothing prepared me for what I saw. I just tuned in when the second plane hit one of the WTC towers... and then they switched over to the Pentagon. I remember screaming.. Oh My God...and my husband came downstairs to see what had happened. We both were dumbstruck! My Mom was in hysterics and was crying. We spent the day watching, watching people from NYC and DC and the reports of another plane heading towards DC... We cried and cried. As we were watching, the towers fell. My husband and I held onto each other and cried. I went outside to get the mail later on in the day..there was an eery silence. I heard no planes flying over head. Our Neighbors were dazed as we were. We were stunned that such vile persons could cause such terrible acts of murder with people in planes and crashing into buildings with people in them. How could this be? That week we walked around as if in a daze. All I remember is crying alot and feeling anger and pain. Many of our family members called each other to make sure everyone was ok. I had a brother flying into Florida..his flight was grounded. I had a brother that had friends that worked in Downtown Manhattan and we were all worried that they were hurt. Turns out many of his friends worked a few blocks away from the towers and they were just fine. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. I will always expect the unexpected now, I am not as trusting. I don't like to fly, but I will if I have to. I won't hide from life because of this, on the contrary.. I am angry. Before I was in a very complacent mode. We were the Mighty USA... and we still are...but I feel it necessary to protect ourselves even if we stand alone. I have never felt so strong about our Nation. What I have learned from 9/11 is that you can't hide from life no matter how scary things can get.... you must live and live your life like it is the last day. It taught me to stand up and believe in our Nation. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think we should remember all of those that helped in times of need. The Paramedics, the Firemen, The Policemen...all those behind the scenes as well. I think we should remember "Freedom is not Free". The heros of that day should never be forgotten..ie: Flight 93. The died fighting and that is what we should always remember the sacrifices. Remember the families that lost loved ones. We should never become so complacent as to endure another attack such as 9/11. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes we do and we still have our flag up. I love our Nation and I love those that are here and have made our nation what it is today. God Bless America!
