NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. My name is Shelia Kay Breeding Ball. I live on Eagle's Nest Branch, Castlewood, Russell County, Virginia. I was on my way on I-81 to Morristown, Tennessee to see my aunt and uncle Gladys & Stan Swartfiguier, who were in from Arizona to see a piece of property that they had bought. My Mom and Dad, Stan & Mary Breeding had went down the night before and stayed the night with them. It was their son Kris' birthday. Just after nine o'clock, their was a news flash on the radio about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. I was in total shock, but thought it was a horrible accident. Then a few minutes later, another news flash and it said that the other Tower had been hit, and I knew instantly that this was a terrible act of terrorism and I cried. A few minutes later, I got lost and stopped in at Office Max in Morristown and got directions. Everyone there was devestated also. I went on to the hotel where my aunt and uncle were staying and the clerk let me into their room to wait on them all. I turned on the television and there it was and then, they told that the Pentagon had ben hit. In a few minutes, my aunt, uncle, mom and dad came in and amidst the joyful reunion, I said have you heard the news, mom and dad said that they had heard a little, Gladys and Stan hadn't. I said you have to come see. So we all went in and watched in horror as they replayed it over and over. Then there was the report of the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. Then came the thoughts about are my 4 girls (Melanie, Caroline, Sarah & Shakaela) okay, is my husband (Clyde) okay.I thought that my girls couldn't be in a better place because their school has a bomb shelter under it. What else is going to happen? There are no words to describe how I felt that day. I put flags up on the outside of my house and they are still up today.(Sept. 10, 2003). I put flags on my vehicles and I put window clings in my vehicles and they are still there. This was an uncalled for act of terrorism. I love my country. Thanks for this opportunity.
