NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was at work when the attacks took place. My husband, David, was on vacation that week so he was able to see the events live, as they happened. I remember my husband calling me to tell me that a plane had just hit the tower. We talked for a few minutes assuring each other that it was just an accident, after all, who would have thought that the United States was vulnerable to airplane attacks? I remember hanging up and a few minutes later David called again. I could hear the shock and horror in his voice when he told me that the second tower had just been hit. My husband kept calling me every few minutes that morning and giving me updates. It just seemed like a bad dream. When I got home, I was able to see the pictures for the first time. I could not believe what I was seeing! To see people making the terrible decision to jump rather than facing the flames, was something that I will never forget. When the rescue workers began the massive clean-up I thought, "I'll bet that they find hundreds of people trapped, but alive". I couldn't believe it when the last pockets were searched and no one was alive. It was utter devastation! NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has been forever changed by the heroism and the courage of the peolple at the TC and the Pentagon. I take time eveyday to reflect on how lucky I am to still have all of my friends and family with me. My sister was visiting New York and had planned on visiiting the observation desk that morning. For several hours I didn't know whether she was alive or dead. I thank God for every day! NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that the most important thing to remember is the heroes of Flight 93 qnd the people who gave their lives directing other to safety. I will never forget the flag being raisig at Ground Zero and the flag hung from the Pentagon. We need to remember that America was hurt but she will never forget. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes, I flew our flag until the last scrap of debris was removed from Ground Zero. I have always been prod of my country and flag but now, I stand up for my beliefs, even if everyone else does not.
