I woke up the morning of September 11th (in San Diego, California), and as usual I was late for school. I hopped in the car and was listening to my CD. Little did I know that there was breaking news occurring at that very instant. I arrived to school and my friends say to me "I can't belive a plane crashed into the World Trade Center!" I said to them "what happened??". Well, the bell rang and I headed off to first period....World History. I walked into the classroom and the news was on. I saw the horrible footage of the planes smashing into the buildings, and about a billion thoughts ran through my head. My teacher said, "Take out a piece of paper and write what you are thinking right now"....this is what I wrote: "Right now I am in World History class and we are watching the news on Channel 7. Today, the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked by terrorists. I am not sure how many planes crashed into the buildings, but I do know that an American Airlines plane (I think Boeing 767) crashed into the World Trade Center. The plane was coming from Boston. They do now know if there were any people on the plane, but I cannot even imagine what was going on in those people's heads if they were on the airplane. Shortly after the plane(s) crashed into the World Trade Center, it collapsed. This attack happened at around 6:00 am in New York. They do not know how many people are killed/injured. They just stated on the news that typically there are 10,000 people in the towers. Right now I am very scared at what migh happen next. This reminds me alot of Pearl Harbor and I am afraid that this mite turn into full-on war." -Written on September 11, 2001 at 8:07 AM I am so glad I have this account that I wrote. That whole day that is all I could think about. I went home and watched the news the whole night...I could not believe my eyes. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed in that I have become such a strong American. Before 9-11 I never really took the time to realize what the Pledge of Allegiance was saying. I just stood up every morning and said it. I also gained a deeper respect for firefighters. They are such heros for everything they do... NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think all of the victims and their families should be remembered. Even though we cannot bring their family members back, by honoring them, it gives them a sense of comfort. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes, I did. On that day, however, American flags were sold out of every single store. The sense of patriotism in my community was so incredibly high. Its so sad that something so horrible had to happen in order for people to come together as one.
