I was working a 90 temporary position at a small Lake Charles, LA Chemical Plant and while taking a short break outside the plant manager passed on a golf cart and made a remark to me about looking out for low flying planes. I just casually smiled and laughed because he hd always had a weird sence of humor and I thought that this was just another one of his corny jokes. It wasn't until I returned to my upstairs office that my supervisor confronted me to hurry to the TV and see what just happened. At that time the second plane had just hit the second tower. I was shocked to the point of numbness for a few minutes and then it hit me. My son - my brother. My oldest son is in the National Guard and was about to finish basic training. My brother is in the Army and stationed at Ft. Hood in Kelline, TX. With both of them in the military, the possibility of them being call to be on a rescue mission became a small worry. Pride set in at that moment for my son and brother. But soon fear set in. A portion of the first tower fell, and it no longer seemed like there would be a rescue attempt, it would now be a clean up mission and search for survivors. Could my son handle finding deceased people or parts of people and still be the same young man I had seen grow up. Could my brother handle the same thing and still be the same loving husband and father. My thoughts soon changed when the rest of the tower fell. Those poor families left behind to cope with this tragedy alone without their loved ones. Wifes without husbands. Husbands without wives. Partents without children. Children without parents. At that moment a chill ran through me, so cold I had chill bumps all over me, which is very unusual for the humid Louisiana September, followed by a warmth I had never experienced before or since. I feel the chill was God's was of snapping me back to reality and the warmth was Him letting me know that He had all these victims in His arms and that He needed all these angels (victims) back in heaven for a very special mission.
