NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. September 11, 2001 was a very significant date in the history of the United States. History wise, it was the first real attack on the U.S. since the raid on Pearl Harbor in 1941. We as a nation had not been threatened in this manor for years, and it truly gave us a scare and tested our unity. I feel that the experience also helped us, as a nation, truly realize our capabilities and potential for the future. Our country came together as a "family", showing our support for one another, and for the vicitms and their families, and for all those affected by the frightening day. This unity is truly what I see as the "history" of September 11th, because I think it is what future generations should acknowledge and see from this day. Yes, buildings were destroyed, people were killed, and businesses plummeted, but in the greater picture, our nation stood together. We as a people decided we would not let terrorism defeat us, or empower us. That I feel, is truly history! NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has not changed drastically because of September 11th, 2001. Being so far away from the occurences, I don't feel as though my life was drastically altered. I do however, have more pride in my nationality, and in my country. I feel as though I'm willing to fight for what I believe is true, and that is the American justice system. I have come to realize how lucky I am to live in such a great nation, one in which I have so many freedoms and opportunities. Overall, my life has changed such that I realize how truly lucky I am to be living in the United States. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I believe there are many things that should be remembered about September 11th, 2001. Not only should future generations remember the violence, and acts of terror, and destruction caused to our country, but they should also remember the unity that was developed. What should be remembered is how positively U.S. citizens reacted, in supporting local charities, and donating to 9-11 support groups/funds. We as a country decided not to let terrosism overcome our greatness, and our attitudes. We lifted our spirits in a sense that everyone is more positive with eachother, and willing to help one another. What should be remembered is how our country stood together in our time of great need, and how we have continued to battle ever since. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I haven't really thought about either question, but I guess I have more respect for the American flag. I understand how it is truly a symbol of our country, and I get chills up my spine everytime I see one flying in the wind.
