911DA Story: Story
My husband and I had been seperated for almost two years. I returned from my job a little before 9:00 am and had no knowledge of what was happening. Then the phone rang, it was my ex-husband. SCREAMING! "Go get the baby from school right now", he yelled. I asked why and his answer was "They just blew up the WTC". In complete shock and disbelief, I answered him "stop playing". He then told me to turn on the television. Then the line went dead. I jumped in my car, nearly crashing into oncoming cars, and got my 4 year-old baby from preschool. Her school happened to share the yard with The Armed Forces Reserve Base here in Amityville. I spent the rest of the day trying to contact my ex-husband (who works in the Woolworth building). It was a terrifying experience. I knew several people over in that area and was frantic as to who might have been in the trade center at that time. Well, THANK GOD! I finally heard from my ex. He never made it to work that day and was not near the WTC!!
About two - three weeks weeks later we went and signed every banner we could at the site and I will never forget the pain and hurt that I felt. I will never forget this day, the victims, and their families. I just thank GOD every day that my ex-husband was unable to get to work that day, for whatever reason. And today, he and I are back together. Love due to tradgedy. May God bless them every one!!!
