NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I am a teacher who lives in a little town in upstate NY called Montgomery. On, Sept. 11, 2001, I was at a new job, teaching 6th graders in Twin Towers Middle School. I received a call on my cell phone right about 9:00. The caller said the Towers were being bombed. My thoughts turned immediately to my husband, Ed Fahey who is a New York City Firefighter. His firehouse, Ladder 1, Engine 7, is many times first due to the WTC. I knew he was working and would be there. I couldn't keep it together and had to have an administrator take over my class. My friend, AnnMarie had to pick me up at the school and take me home. I did try to call the firehouse, but of course there was no answer. On the drive home, she told me both towers had fallen. I felt very sick at once. I could only think of my two young children and what I could possibly say to them. I could not watch the TV and asked AnneMarie not to put it on in her home. I had to find out if Eddie made it out and was alive. A few hours later I found out he was alive and I finally got to speak to him at around 6:00 that night. It was an unbelievable feeling! But, we started to find out all the people that did not make it. What a tragic and terribly sad day. So many other families were not as lucky as us. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of someone lost or read about a family memeber or realize how lucky my children and I were that day.
