NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was at my desk at work when my husband called me from home. He had been watching the morning news when the 1st plane hit the Towers, and he immediately called to tell me. While I was still trying to comprehend what he was saying, he watch the 2nd plane hit. Even as I write this, I clearly remember the emptiness in the pit of my stomach and it still brings tears to my eyes. When I hung up, I was the bearer of this bad news to my other coworkers. I frantically, and unsuccessfully, tried to find a working TV somewhere within the vacinity, so I relied on my radio. The news coverage felt almost like being there. Unable to concentrate on any work, I went home at around noon and spent the rest of the day witnessing this tragedy, via the TV, with my husband. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. I take news broadcasts of possible terrorism much more seriously than I did before. I'm also paying more attention to what is going on in the Middle East, and I simply can't understand how human life can be so meaningless to so many people. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? The lives of all that died needless simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time should certainly be remembered. All of the people who gave up their life trying to save the others is a true show of heroism, and they should be remembered. The firefighters, police, and civilians who worked countless hours searching for life should be remembered. And, the surviving families of all who lost their life should be remembered. As a nation, we need to commit this day to memory, and not be so naive to think that it couldn't happen again. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes, we put a flag pole up at our house and fly the flag every day. It is truly a beautiful site.
