911DA Story: Story
I was sitting at home with a friend of mine, learning Latin fo our exam was drawing closer.
We had been working for three or four hous, when suddenly my boyfriend called. "Come over here, switch on the TV!" he stammered, "A Plane crashed into the World Trade Center!"
We had been discussing Tom Cancy's novels and movies the day before, so the only thing that got into my mind was: "Hell, nobody would think of such a plot! It's way too unrealistic."
Five minutes later I sat in front of the TV, still not believing what I saw. At first we tought - hoped! - it could have been an accident, but then we witnessed the second plane hitting the tower.
We were holding hands, still not believing that this could be reality. I study English at the university and I have American friends. We kept on watching till late at night. Finally, we tried to watch a movie on video, but every fifteen minutes or so one of us would stop the tape, and switch back to the news.
When I went to the university the next morning, the whole English department was very quiet. Some of my friends were there, some of them sitting around and talking silently, some staring at the walls. Others had simply stayed at home. None of us did know what to do or say, so we waited for more news. Race and nationality did not matter these days, we stuck together and tried our best to support each other.
