NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. At first, I couldn't believe what was truly happening. I was in my 3rd period biology class carrying a slide back to my desk when the substitute teacher told us that she received a phone call that her son (who was in NY) was ok, I didn't understand. Then she said that we were being attacked by terrorists. We turned on the t.v. to find that the first world trade center had been hit by a plane yet remained standing while burning. A few minutes later, we saw, live, the second world trade center get hit by a plane and begin to burn along with the first one. As soon as the two towers went down, it was so hard for me to believe any of this was happening. It was like watching an action movie yet it was a horrible scene of reality. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has been somewhat impacted from the September 11th events. I no longer feel quite as safe in large, croweded places, but I do not fear to fly again because giving into the fear makes me feel that the terrorists have accomplished what they wanted. Some of the programs on T.V. brought me a little close to tears, but I think it's good to reflect on what happened. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that it should be known that even though our buildings went down, our nation did not. Instead, we pulled together and sought justice, not vengence (as President Bush had mentioned something like that earlier). NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? My family did fly an American flag after September 11th. In fact, we even put one hanging down on the inside of our house on one of the top windows, so when the lights go on at night, the flag shines through the window. I still feel the same about the American Flag but its symbolization of the meaning of freedom and the right to live in this country feel much stronger.
