NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. My name is Violeta Mata-Teixeira I live in Pittsburg Ca. I visited New York after thanksgiven in 1999 with my Sister Flor Mata She won a prize to visit for a week the city and I live in the USA so we decide to fly the same day, her from Guadalajara, Mexico and I from San Francisco we meet in the airport and for a entire week I live the dream of my life, we spend every hour of those days walking and admiring the beautifull city of manhatan we fall in Love with the statue of Liberty we took several pictures from the bridges we had a ticket for apple tours signed and we used all week to go from one side of the island to other we went on the Empire State and because our budget didn't allow it we couldn't go to the top of the Twin Towers and I promess to my Sister that in thanksgiven of 2001 we will go again to New York and we would go to the top of the towers and we would eat at the restaurant "Windows of the World" we make our reservations for thanksgiven so we buy our tickets and when I wake up the morning of 9/11 I was horrified seeing the tower with a lot of smoke I call her in the phone to Guadalajara, Mexico and we sow at the same time how our dream was being broken by people without heart we cry like crazy all day we last around 3 hours in the phone, I was scared she was asking me to start driving to mexico that in the T.V. in Mexico there where saying that was a bomb in San Francisco. And she was scared for me and my family, we pray for everybody that was suffering at that moment and we ask God to give us strength. I have back the money for my tickets and I send it to the people in New York and I see in this way, like if I was there hugging a child and telling him that everything was going to be allright. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. Yes it change I reallize now that we always take a lot of things for granted, and it give me a opportunity to turn around and see what I have that is so much My Family My Friends this place where I live My Work, is truth that we live in a little of fear but we have to be strong and don't let them win by being scared. Enjoy this life and our AMERICA that is so BEAUTIFULL. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that the feelings of hope, the people that helped others without thinking that they where risking their own lifes "Our Heros" and the way of thinking that friendship is always withing reach. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes we put Flags in our car in front of our home we decorate in my work. I work in a school and we fund raise money to send to kids in New York, and now that I see the Flag I feel like if is something mine, Like I belong to somewhere.......
