NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I am a teacher in Winfield, Kansas. I remember that day well as I am sure the rest of the country does. It was a beautiful morning. Fall was lingering in the air that September morning and I was traveling between two schools. I heard the initial report on the radio that a plane had struck the World Trade Center. My initial reaction was hopeful that this was a grave accident. By the time I made it to the school and found a television, the second plane had struck and we all knew it was not an accident. I realized then what a monumentous day this was in the history of our country. The rest of the day was spent following news reports and trying to explain such uncomprehensible acts to my students and my children. I pray for those who died and those who lost their loved ones. America is the greatest nation in the world. We have lived most of our history apart from the violence and war in the rest of the world. It should be written in history as the second foreign attack on our soil. But what people should never forget is the heroism, bravery and loss that came from that day. Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Yes, I always have been a patriot and have strong feelings about our great country. I flew the flag in honor of those who lost their lives on that day, and how proud I am to be a citizen of this country.
