When I first saw the plane hit the Twin Towers I had just come downstairs and saw my mom watching the news. I just stood there in awe as I watched the second plane hit. It didn't seem real, just like another action movie on TV, until the reporter came on the air and started talking about what was happening. Even when I went to school I didn't know what to think. I wasn't scared, or sad, or upset, or mad. I was just amazed at the fact that at the very moment that I was sitting in school, millions of people were fleeing for their lives in fear from the collapsing Twin Towers. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. The events of September 11 have changed my life in quite a few ways. I now have a lot more respect for people in our government, airforce, navy, marine core, police force, fire fighting system, and all other forms of protection of America. I am now aware as well of a much greater unitedness of our country. It also has made me more aware of what's going on in the world around us because I watch the news more often to see if anything new has happened. I get a bit nervous sometimes too because every once in a while fighter jets or army helicopters fly over my house and remind me that there is still a war going on. This makes me feel very lucky too though, because, while so many people were killed and/or had family and friends killed, my family, friends, and I are still alive, healthy, and together. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think we should remember the couraage of those firefighters who risked their lives in order to save people from in the Twin Towers. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I flew a flag in front of my house after September 11 and put a red ribbon on the antenna of my mom's car. After September 11, my feelings about our flag are that it is not just another symbol for America, but a symbol of unity, freedom, and power within our country.
