NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was heading to my international relations class at Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana when a classmate told me about 2 planes colliding into the World Trade Center. I didn't believe him at first until I saw the video of the planes slamming into the WTC. I was in a state of shock. I couldn't believe what was happening before my eyes. After work that day, I went home and watched the coverage on television. I remained in a state of shock through the rest of the week, then I became angry at the terrorists for what they did to my country and I wanted revenge. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed drastically since 9/11. I became Catholic and embarked on a new direction in my life. Instead of becoming a lawyer, I went to grad school for my masters and doctorate in history. I feel that my job is to educate college students about the world we live in, about other nations's histories, help them to understand the world and the people of the world around them. Maybe by educating future generations, maybe we can put an end to terrorism forever. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think 9/11 should be remembered for what hate does to people and what drives them to commit acts of mass murder of innocent populations. It should also be remembered as a time of unity in our country, when no one was conservative, liberal, we were all Americans united. We should always remember those who were murdered on that day, but they would want us to go on with living our lives, which is the best way to honor those that were murdered on that day. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I flew the flag for an entire year after the attacks. Since then I fly it on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Flag Day, Labor Day and on 9/11.
