It was a picture-perfect day in southeast Massachusetts, the sky was a brilliantly blue, nearly cloudless when a roaring, thunderous and now ominous sound came out of the East. The sound was caused by the scrambling of fighter jet planes from Otis Air Force Base racing against the elusive minutes of time on their way to New York City. At this moment, on 9/11, I had only fleeting thoughts of why these fighter planes were so driven to accelerate so rapidly and to fly so low in a southwesterly directions. My questions were soon answered, upon entering my home the NBC news had just broadcasted information of the first tower being struck by a plane and then to my bewildered mind, the second tower was hit by the second plane.
