My friend and I live and work in New York City, the Twin Towers are visible from the hospital we work in, I watched in total disbelief and horror as the flames erupted and the Towers collapsed. My friend watched in horror from the roof of our home. Both of us are nurses and we felt totally helpless that day because all we could do was wait. The hospital was mobilized to receive the injured, but none came, as the hours passed we learned that a paramedic that was our co-worker was missing and we waited, but he never returned. It seems unreal that a year has passed, we have made 11 trips to Ground Zero, and it still seems like yesterday. New York is healing and in great thanks to the rest of the country. Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? We have flown the flag from our balcony since September 11th, the flag has always involked a strong feeling of patriotism and that feeling has not changed. I was proud to wear the uniform of my country when I served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, and I am proud to wave the flag. There is no greater symbol of our country than the American Flag, and long may it wave.
