On September 11th 2001 I witnessed history in action; the effects of this have come no where near an end. For the first time in this day and age a large number of innocent civilians were killed in the United States. It is hard to say how this will fall into the rest of history because the event is such a watershed. Never again will our nation be the same in its security and living of day to day life.
From that day I have two main memories both of which will never leave my memory. The first is when I heard the news, the class I was in had a broken loud speaker so I didnt hear the announcement at school right away. Then after class I questioned another teacher about the announcement and she told me about the first tower. I thought she was joking and just went on with my day to my locker. Here I heard others discussing the event and I could not comprehend what had happened. It seemed like something that could never happen to the United States. The second memory that I have is driving home around three in the afternoon. I took 93 North threw the city of Boston which was deserted. I could see no other cars behind or in front of me, nor a single person in any building. It felt so unreal that I will never be able to overcome the feeling.
This has had an impact on my day to day life. I live knowing that my time here is sort, and existence is fragile. I now more than ever try to get the most out of life while having fun with the time I have. I dont want to have any regrets and since 9-11 I have lived my life to the full that way.
