From my Parisian friend, the subject line, "Horror"

I have just been informed regarding the World Trade Center and the
Pentagone.
It is a nightmare !!!!
Who can does that ?
Please tell me if you are feeling OK. We are very shocked here.
Please keep me informed.
Elodie

From my British friend in London:

I just wanted to write and say how awful I think today's events have been. Everyone I know is so shocked and saddened by what has happened. I've been watching TV all afternoon and evening, trying to let it sink in but am still unable to really believe it.

I'm glad our prime minister has been quick to say we stand with America on this issue. I love America and Americans and because of our holidays there feel a special affinity and feel far closer to America than to Europe. It's strange what little 'coincidences' occur that bring things home to you: It's Toby's 9th birthday today; we spent his 7th birthday in New York having a wonderful time. How much has changed, in so little time.

The most sickening scene I've ever seen on TV was today: there were Palestinians in the streets of east Jerusalem cheering and celebrating. There was something about those pictures which will change my life forever.

With very best wishes and hopes - for all of us
Lynn

From my Irish friend in Dublin

Tuesday the 11Sept 2001 will go down in history as one of the most terrible days in the history of mankind. We in Ireland feel greatly saddened by the disaster that was perpetrated on your country, not alone from the many
family and other connections which we have with your country but from the way we see you as the leaders of democracy in the free world. An attack on you is an attack on the free world and we all feel the pain.

No doubt some of your friends , even family, have been injured or worse and all we can do is think of you all and say a small prayer for them. In particular we will remember them on Friday which we are treating as a national day of mourning in Ireland. All business will be shut down for
the day and at 1100 GMT we are having a minute of silence.

Please tell all of your friends that we stand fully behind you and your government leaders as the efforts to rid the world of the evil perpetrators of this hideous deed are hunted down world-wide.

God bless you all and be strong,
Michael
