911DA Story: Story

I was working with my dad as a heavy machine operator on his road construction crew that fall. The morning of Sept 11th started out like any other day. We were paving a bridge in Gackle North Dakota, out in the middle of no where. I was lying in a ditch waiting for another truck to deliver asphalt to us when my dad pulled up in his company pickup and very sadly yelled to get in and listen to the radio.
The first thing I heard was reporters from CNN gasping and yelling that there is a second plane that just hit the other tower. All day we worked and watched many planes fly over us to Bismark airport. By the end of the day, not a plane was in sight. I couldn't imagine the scenes I would see on the television once we got back to the hotel. I was shocked, very confused, and very sad.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all that have suffered from 9-11. Even today, I show more patriotism than ever before. Everytime I see a flag, I get this proud feeling. I think of those who died that day and pause for just a moment in my life to remember.
