On September 23, 2001, my sister and I brought our two nieces, Jennifer and Christina, to New York City so they might begin to understand the unimaginable. They were very familiar with the firehouse on West 10th Street and 6th Avenue (pictured here), as my sister lives nearby. A few months earlier, Christina (who is often shy around adults) actually went into the firehouse with my sister because she wanted to tell the firemen that they were her heroes. Now, they are everybody's heroes.
