A Force Reconnaissance Marine with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) lashes his gear to a Fast Attack Vehicle shortly before his platoon sets out on a patrol in the desert south of the Taliban stronghold city of the Kandahar December 3, 2001. A close, personal friend of the platoon provided the red New York City Fire Department sticker affixed to the vehicle's door.
