Title A name given to the resource "Satan in the Smoke" Emails Description An account of the resource On the morning of September 11, immediately after two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in Manhattan, photojournalist Mark D. Phillips took a picture that would prove to be one of the most evocative and disputed images of that tragic day. Many peple later construed the image of the smoke in his photo of the burning buildings to compose the face of Satan. These e-mails related to this picture provide a revealing portal into Americans' responses to the attacks in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. I know you have received many e-mails, but I just wanted to commend you on your excellent photographic work.    Like the rest of the world, I stood in horror as I saw those incredible twin towers burn.  I appreciate the hard work of photographers like you who bring this news up close to us in Charlotte, North Carolina.   The face in the smoke is indeed creepy.  I just want to assure you that although I do not doubt that this whole plan was totally evil and demonic in it's origin, I know that God is in control.  He is a wonderful, loving God that sent His son Jesus to die for our sins so we could have the assurance of Heaven when our time on earth is done.  If you do not know Him as Lord of your life, I invite you to ask Jesus into your heart to live.  Not only will you have the assurance of Heaven when you die, He will give you a peace and a sense of being fulfilled that you cannot imagine or even describe.  If you are already a Christian, I pray that you have been brought even closer to Him through this tragedy.    You have a wonderful gift of being able to take incredible pictures.  I believe you were put at the right place at the right time to take these photographs.  It was not by coincidence.  Many other people who see your photos will undoubtedly be moved.  Thank you for doing an incredible job.    Most sincerely,   Sherril Galloway Charlotte, NC (wife and mother of 3 children)<br> September 11 Email: Date The local time and date when the message was written.
