Description
Drifting hundreds of miles above the eastern sea board of the United States on September 11, 2001, the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's "Terra" satellite (operated by the Goddard Space Flight Center - http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov) captured a striking image of Hurricane Erin. Upon closer inspection, a plume of smoke can be seen emanating from Manhattan - a chilling testament to the magnitude of the World Trade Center collapse. I added some descriptive text and a close-up of New York City, for clarification. The original image can be found here:
