Phillips took a picture that would prove to be one of the most evocative and disputed images of that tragic day. Many peple later construed the image of the smoke in his photo of the burning buildings to compose the face of Satan. All of us have been hurt by the tragedy in one way or another... To have to deal with these horrible accusations on top of that must make you really sad and angry. What I would suggest is that you would channel your anger to the people who are in the wrong. Send a letter to those who intentionally mislead you or the world on how these pictures came about. Next, simply forget about the people who on an individual basis are contacting you to accuse you of having tampered with your pictures. They don't know better, are upset and want to express that to who they think is at the source of this. Do reply to each and one of them with a clear, friendly but firm message clarifying what happened. At least this will give you chance to react. Some will believe you and some won't. You and your friends and family know the truth. I'm sure this thing will blow over... and for any professional contacts who in the future might remember, show the true trails of things: from your original picture - to how you have send it around without any allusion to the face - to the reactions - to your reactions. A decent person will believe you! Maybe all this advize comes way to late.. It sounds quite paternizing and that's certainly not what I want it to sound like.
