Monday, March 11, 2002 7:49 PM Regarding : September 11th Fund Gay Domestic Partner Compensation To Whom It May Concern : I am writing to express surprise and regret with regards to the recent announcement by September 11th Victim Compensation Fund head Kenneth Feinburg on th March 10th episode of NBC's "Meet the Press" that gay domestic partners may not be eligible to receive the same compensation as the spouses of heterosexual victims. With all respect given to the lack of legal recognition of gay partnerships, it is expressly because of this lack of recognition that gay domestic partners must be given the same consideration as legal spouses -- penalizing individuals for not having been granted the right to legally validate their relationships only serves to increase rather than alleviate the suffering of victim's families, as it has been put into your organization's charge to do to the best of your abilities.
