Fwd: September 11 Compensation Fund distribution
Attachment 1:
Subject: September 11 Compensation Fund distribution
Kenneth L. Zwick, Director
Office of Management Programs
U.S. Department of Justice
Sir:
I am writing in response to the request for public comments about how the September 11 Compensation Fund should be distributed.
There are many types of families in our world, and it is for those families that I make my plea: gay men and lesbian women lost life partners and children of those families lost defacto parents in the World Trade Center attacks as well as in the other plane crashes on September 11. Do not be guilty of compounding the suffering of the ones left behind by discounting the existence and value of those families and the relationships these people shared; it's time to disregard sexual orientation and marital status instead of making an issue of those things.
Please follow the example already set by New York Governor Pataki in granting compensation benefits "on a showing of mutual interdependence with the victim, in recognition that anyone who shared with the victim living expenses, day-to-day activities and the emotional bonds of family deserves help in this time of need."
Respectfully,
Individual Comment
