January 28, 2002 Our group was established as a result of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, "Fiances and Domestic Partners of 9/11" was created to emotionally support those of us who lost our loved ones in the tragedy of 9/11. Although we were not legally married, we were in committed relationships with our life partners. We suffer the same as those who were legally married. Our days and lives are now filled with loneliness and emptiness. There is a deep pain that is unbearable that we will live with forever. We are struggling hard to find any hope in the future. We had a beautiful life planned and had already established ourselves as "families". There are an estimated couple of hundred of fiances and domestic partners. The Victims Compensation Fund, was funded with federal funds to compensate spouses and victims families. Originally it was funded in thoughts that there were 7,000 families now it is 2,87 families. The legislation emphasizes the loss of companionship and consortium. In most cases, the fiances and or domestic partner was the person who was emotionally and financially dependent on the victim. It is not clear how Mr. Feinberg, the Special Master, will treat the finances and domestic partners of the victims of New York and New Jersey. We should be treated as equally as family members and spouses, since the intent of this legislation was to help all of us according to the Senators and Congresspersons with whom we have spoken. January 28, 2002 Dear Mr. Zwick, My beloved fiance was one of the victims of the World Trade Center attack. He was 33 years old and lived with myself, my son and my 80 year old elderly, disabled parents. was a kind, loving and generous person who insisted on supporting us in anyway he could. My salary was more then 3 times less than 's, thus making head of household to my family. There are some many of us who lived together and we were considered spouses by our fiances and life partners. All of us depended on our fiances in so many ways then just financially. Our fiances were our life and everyone of us was looking forward to fulfilling our dreams with one another. This dream was tragically taken from us along with our security on 9/11. We ask that we the fiances along with all domestic partners be taken into consideration for proper compensation as equally as the married couples, as we lived together the same as husband and wife. Our future was also torn away form us and our lives shattered. We expected to say to our fiances on our much awaited wedding day, "till dead due us part", this statement for us has literally taken place on 9/11, death did part us. At this time we ask for equal justice to take place for our compensation as would have been wished upon us by our fiances and partners. We have lost our spouses the same as those who were married.
